baa ram ewe’s Winterburn Aran throws the spotlight on a wonderful Yorkshire sheep breed, the Masham (/ˈmæsəm/ MASS-əm). The Masham has smaller ringlets of fleece than the Wensleydale but with added bounce and loft that it gets from its hill-loving male ancestry, the Dalesbred. In fact, female ‘gimmer’ -or lambs - were considered so pretty that farmers would tie ribbons in their fleece before taking them to market and Sheep Fairs which continue to this day in the North Yorkshire town of Masham, from which this sheep breed gets its name.  .

Winterburn Aran has a heathered look that is produced from a base of 25% ecru Masham, 25% dark brown Masham, and 50% Bluefaced Leister (BFL), which lends a softening touch.  baa ram ewe produces luxurious and authentic wools, spun and made in Yorkshire, England.  If you like a beautiful traditional yarn, Winterburn Aran is for you!!

In addition to lovely sweaters, Winterburn Aran makes gorgeous hats, scarves and mitts.  Woolwinders staffer and superstar knitter, Flo,  just completed this fantastic sweater (Felix Sweater by Amy Christoffers.  Available on Ravelry) and has the following to say about the yarn:

"Winterburn was lovely to knit with! On the skein the yarn has a rustic look and feel but after a delicate bath becomes quite soft and has a comfy feel. The yarn is extremely light in weight. I used Winterburn to make the Felix Sweater which has an eyelet detail  but I feel that the yarn would behave equally nicely on cabled hats or sweaters. The Felix Sweater also has a cousin the Felix Cardigan, if that is more your style." Flo.
