Introduction to Mosaic Knitting
Description: In this class, students will learn the mosaic slip stitch technique and how to read a very simple, basic chart to create a war, slightly textured hat. *Note - instructions for the slip stitch pattern are written out as well as charted.

Techniques/Skills Learned: Mosaic slip stitch and how to read a chart.
Skill Level: Intermediate - Beginner level skills plus increase, decrease, and follow simple patterns.
Prerequisites for Class: Students must know how to cast on, knit, purl and knit in the round. Students will start the project at home prior to class by casting on and completing 2 to 2 1/2 inches of ribbing.
Materials Needed for Class:
16" circular needles in size 9 and size 10 plus double pointed needles in size 10 to finish the hat.
One Main Color and a Contrasting Color of yarn in bulky weight. The contrasting yarn may be variegated, self striping or another yarn in a color that complements and contrasts with the main color.
** If the student prefers to use worsted weight yarn instead of bulky, they will one Main Color and a Contrasting Color of yarn in worsted weight, 16" circular needles in size 5 and size 7 plus double pointed needles in size 7 to finish the hat.**

Homework:
Students will download the pattern prior to class.
Students choosing bulky weight yarn will cast on 72 stitches in the Main Color, join in the round and complete 2 to 2 1/2 inches of 2x2 ribbing (knit 2, purl 2).
Students choosing worsted weight yarn will cast on 112 stitches in the Main Color, join in the round and complete 2 to 2 1/2 inches of 2x2 ribbing (knit 2, purl 2).
In order for this class to be held there must be at least 4 students enrolled.
