Description:  Knit this gorgeous fair isle hat (Rocky Mountain Magpie) with 3 colors of yarn per row. The colors in the hat resemble the colors of the Magpie bird and the pattern represents the mountainous terrain of the Rockies.  Knit these colors or choose your own.

Techniques/Skills Learned:  Knitting Fair Isle with 3 colors per row

Skill Level:  Intermediate level skills PLUS yarn over patterns, cables, ribbing, comfortable with pattern interpretation.

Prerequisites for Class:  Already know how to knit fair isle with 2 colors, know how to provisionally cast on.

Materials Needed for Class: 

Rocky Mountain Magpie Hat pattern - provided in class.

3 shades of DK weight yarn.

Needles: 16” size US 4 and 6.

Set of US 6 double pointed needles.

Scrap yarn.

Crochet hook.

Stitch marker.

Tapestry needle.

Homework:  

With scrap yarn, provisionally cast on 120 sts with main color using the size 4 needles.  Place BOR (Beginning of Round) marker and join in the round. Knit k2, p2 rib for 40 rows.

Additional Notes: Pattern uses Rowan Alpaca Soft DK with 2 balls main color and 1 ball each of 2 other contrasting colors.
