CALLING ALL ADVANCED KNITTERS
We often hear that many magazines and books are geared to novice rather than experienced knitters. Advanced knitters rejoice! The special edition KNITTING TRADITIONS from Interweave should delight you. Socks, gloves, shawls featuring advanced techniques abound. And the magazine is filled with delightful stories about the history and characteristics of each project. Enjoy!

THE SQUEAKY WHEEL GETS THE GREASE!
We have it on good authority that many in our neighborhood called about the lack of plowing during the last storm. It worked. The plow JUST arrived! We must now shovel the end of our driveway where the thing always seems to pile up the plowed snow (go figure) but we will DEFINITELY be OPEN FOR BUSINESS TOMORROW, FRIDAY!!!!! Com see us and restock your depleted stash. We know we will be doing the same.

THAT'S RIGHT, IT'S THURSDAY!
We have totally lost track of time, being stranded in the cul-de-sac since last Friday. But it’s now THURSDAY and you know what that means! WEEKEND @ WOOLWINDERS NEWS. And yes, there WILL be a weekend. We are feeling quite optimistic that we may, in fact, be able to get the heck out of our house TOMORROW!
Anyway, join us this weekend. We are beginning the FEBRUARY LADY SWEATER KAL on Saturday from 2-4 PM. We worked on this sweater during the storm and can report that 1) it’s a great pattern, 2) it’s a hell of a lot of fun to knit, 3) it’s a great way to learn lace, and 4) it’s a wonderful FIRST sweater project. It’s made from worsted weight yarn and appropriate needles 24-32” in length. Join us!

On SUNDAY, we will be knitting the uber-adorable FRENCH PRESS FELTED SLIPPERS. These felted beauties are unbelievably fast and easy to knit. Unlike the clogs, they are done in pieces that are sewn together. No short rows. No knitting in the round. Put a cute button on and voila! We wore ours on New Year’s Eve and were the talk of our dinner party! Give us a call at the shop to save your spot at the table. If you call today, just leave a message on the voice mail. We will confirm with you tomorrow. You will need to download the pattern at www.etsy.com; if you forget we can do it for you here and you can pay the shop.

As for the twice-aborted SNOWBOARD HAT, we are going to have a very special THURSDAY NIGHT KNIT-IN for it on FEBRUARY 18 from 6-8 pm. We understand that many of you who signed up for the Sunday program have more flexible schedules on the weekend, but this is the best we can do,short of bumping another program. If you bought your materials and can’t make it Thursday, call us. We will arrange for a help session.

BY NOW YOU PROBABLY KNOW THE DRILL....
We remain closed. Our best guess is that we will open SATURDAY, since the Governor O’Malley has announced that the neighborhoods won’t be plowed until then. But of course we will post daily. We are going to email our staff to see who’s dug out when….and we will keep you posted. Just think of how FESTIVE everything will be on Sunday, when we celebrate Valentine’s Day at the shop.
We’ll post to keep you posted. And Tweet. So sign up on Twitter, if you haven’t already. That’s it. We’re going out to shovel now….

DAILY UPDATE
We will be CLOSED today because of the SON OF SNOWMAGEDDON storm. Tomorrow is uncertain, but as you can see we update this site daily and we have an updated message on our phone as well. Stay tuned. Hopefully you are knitting down your stash and will be able to replenish with our wonderful new yarns when all this settles down!

STORE HOURS TUESDAY: 11-3
With a shout out to KERRY, KIM, and GAIL we were able to open today from 11-3. The roads are still pretty bad around here, and our staff has gone home to prepare for the next storm. We have a message on the phone about store closure and as you can see we update this site CONSTANTLY. We are such an optimist that we are hoping all the weather reports are wrong and this next system will miss us. If so, we will be open tomorrow. If not…….
And a HUGE shout out to all of you who came out to the shop today. Many, many thanks. We are looking forward to resuming regular activities at the shop this weekend and we will plan a GREAT celebration!

SO HERE'S THE PLAN FOR TUESDAY
We WILL open up at 11 in the morning. YAY! We don’t know how long we will stay; it all depends on the next “historic” weather system coming our way. So PLEASE call before heading out to the shop to make sure we are there. Though our neighborhood STILL hasn’t been plowed, the intrepid KERRY is picking us up along a main road not too far away. We can’t wait to see you at the shop. Get ready for “Son of Snowmageddon” or as we like to call it “MULTIPLE SNOWGASMS.”

CLOSED AGAIN TODAY. SIGH.
Our home neighborhood still hasn’t been plowed and quite frankly we don’t want to risk the safety of our staff. Every news report encourages folks to stay off the roads unless it’s an emegency. Yes, we know you are having a yarn emergency and we feel your pain, but we are thinking of your well being. Hopefully a plow will arrive today and we can open up tomorrow. Stay tuned. They are calling for more snow tomorrow night and we will constantly update you.
If anyone reading this lives in King Farm, would you be kind enough to email us at jacqui@woolwinders.com and let us know what things look like over there? Many thanks.
PLEASE NOTE: ALL EVENING CLASSES AND THURSDAY NIGHT KNITING IS CANCELLED THIS WEEK. WE WILL RESCHEDULE ALL CLASSES.

WE REMAIN CLOSED
WoolWinders will remain closed today. Please respect all the hardworking folks from Public Works who have asked us to stay off the streets so they can plow and restore our services. While we will suffer because of the loss of business, your safety is the most important thing to us. We will make up the sales of yarn and the classes, but we can’t make up any accident that could happen. Please stay home and stay safe today. We will update our status tomorrow morning. If we are plowed out of our neighborhood or have employees that are, we will do our best to open the shop.
