    IT'S THURSDAY!

So we present the BOOK OF THE WEEK from our lovely friends at www.amazon.com as well as info on the upcoming weekend at the shop.

First, a personal favorite. We always visit STRING in New York—Linda and her staff are amazing and their selection of luxury yarns is second to none. She once confided that about 70% of her inventory was cashmere! So who better to write a book about luxury knits:

If you haven’t used our affiliate program, here’s how it works. Get to the amazon site through the above link and WHATEVER you buy goes in our column! You are helping out your LYS while at the same time getting books at a price we simply can’t match. So everyone wins.

And we are so excited about this weekend! We continue our SATURDAY KAL from 2-4 with PAIGE leading the charge to learn FAIR ISLE and CABLED AGHAN SQUARES. Thanks to all who participated last week and took the time to write a nice email about the program. It’s free and it will run all month.

On SUNDAY, we knit amazing GLOVES on 2 NEEDLES. This is, hands down (!), the easiest glove pattern we have ever found. There is advanced prep work and you will need to buy the pattern, so please call the shop if you want to participate. Again ,the program is free of charge and will run from 2-4 PM.

    ISN'T SHE LOVELY?

We LOVE when customers email us pictures of their finished garments, particularly when they are worn by someone as adorable as GEORGIA, shown here. Her mom AMANDA worked with us at Deloitte many years ago and her grandmother, REBECCA, is the proud knitter. What a lovely way to start 2010.

    CLEARING OUT THAT STASH?

Consider donating some of your yarn to a very worthy cause. One of our customers is taking yarn to Cuba to assist a woman whose only livelihood is knitting things for sale. Yarn is very expensive there, and she is having difficulty making ends meet. Please consider donating your LIGHTWEIGHT YARN (acrylic is fine) to the shop and we will make sure it gets there safely. We will be collecting yarn until SATURDAY, JANUARY 23, unless we get too much for her to take on the plane!!! Thanks very much.

    NEED GLOVES?

We’ll teach you how to make the easiest gloves around! You knit them FLAT on two needles, no dpns required. These gloves are warm and cute—and did we mention that they’re easy?

    gloves.jpg

So here’s the deal. Go to www.patternfish.com and download the pattern for $5.00. (when you start shopping, put in CTH 224 under pattern name or number.) You will need 100 grams of sockweight yarn (we have some lovely colors), size 2 and 3 needles (short straight are great), and there is homework prior to the SUNDAY, JANUARY 10 program. Please cast on, knit the cuff and the stockinette rows UP TO THE THUMB SHAPING. That way, we will make the best use of our time together.

This is one of our favorite programs, and the gloves are sure to get a lot of compliments when you wear them. How much do we love our gloves? We made them first and THEN bought a coat to match!
Sign up for this FREE program by calling 240.632.9276.
