WE'LL DISTRACT YOU WITH FABULOUS MAGAZINES....
Because of course we STILL have not loaded the pictures of the new fabulous NASHUA yarn. But the photos are in our camera, we promise, and they will be on the site tonight.
In the meantime, let us distract you with two much-awaited additions: VOGUE MAGAZINE 25th EDITION and ROWAN 42. Let the knitting begin!

OOH LA LA!!!!
We completely forgot we ordered this yarn from ROWAN but boy are we happy we did! Check out the NASHUA GRAND OPERA, a gorgeous wool with a thread of metallic running through it! What is truly amazing about the yarn is its hand; most metallics are scratchy. Not this. Soft and buttery AND glitzy! What more could you want from a yarn perfect for those holiday shawls and tops???? We can’t wait to get started. It is a light worsted/dk weight, so get those size 6 needles ready and we will help you pick the perfect pattern. This yarn is so new that we can’t find a picture of it on the web, so we will bring our camera in tomorrow and post some shots then.
Also in, two new pattern books from NASHUA; IN THE MOUNTAINS and LOG CABIN. Can’t find pics of those either, so we will post them tomorrow!

NEW ARRIVALS ON THURSDAY
Beautiful new items at the shop today. To complement the exquisite BEADED SILK we received last week from ARTYARNS, Iris sent along all the same colors in the REGAL SILK. Think about edging in the beads and working in the silk. Gorgeous. We are thinking that this will be our vacation project….
Also in, a new book from INTERWEAVE: KNIT KIMONO. Interesting designs based upon knitting simple squares:

Also in the shop, the sought-after WHITE BABY CASHMERINO, mauve BABY CASH and two new colors of NORO NIJI.
And finally, new pattern books for children and adults using the perennial favorite MANOS.

NEW YARN FROM SCHAEFER AND OTHER GOODIES!
A new yarn from the fabulous CHERYL SCHAEFER is always cause for celebration. Come check out her SPORTWEIGHT COTTON in those amazing MEMORABLE WOMEN colorways! A hefty 470 yards per skein means you only need two for a medium shell; three for a sweater. And at $31.99/skein, not bad for a hand-dyed, hand-knit garment, huh? Think of this as a cotton KOIGU, for those of you who don’t like wool. We can just imagine the adorable baby stuff made from this. Ooh. One skein for a sweater that can be machine washed AND dried.

Also in, lots of that wonderful sock/fingering weight yarn from COLINETTE—JITTERBUG. Also more CADENZA as well as the lovely rose-tinted ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS AFGHAN KIT of the month for July.
And for those who have expressed interest in the mohair/silk jacket we’ve been knitting (it is a lot of fun with a very unusual construction!), the pattern book, NOSTALGIA, is back in. And we have plenty of yarn!

UNEXPECTED BOUNTY
We never expect to walk in on Saturday and encounter boxes of new stock, but we did today. Two enormous boxes from ROWAN!!!!! After we paused a bit to figure out where we were going to put (and store) this stuff, we began to ooh and aah. After all, Rowan is one of our favorite commercially produced yarn lines. So come check out WOOL COTTON, CREATIVE FOCUS CHUNKY and MOHAIR (from their NASHUA line), FELTED TWEED, KIDSILK HAZE and KIDSILK NIGHT. We have worked with all of these yarns and just love them.
Also in, new books: CLASSIC KNITS FOR REAL WOMEN, which has some of the most fashionable plus size designs we have ever seen, and the TAPESTRY COLLECTION, which makes use of our favorite new yarn:

AS PROMISED.....
The ARTYARNS and CASCADE orders are checked in and shelved. And all we can say is OMG!!!!
We fell in love with Artyarns two years ago, finding their yarns spectacular, the designs ingenious, and the team of IRIS/ELIOT SCHRIER a pleasure. We believe that they have outdone themselves this year with their BEADED SILK and BEADED SILK RHAPSODY MOHAIR
.
This is real luxury yarn. While we love the look of beaded knitting, we don’t, quite frankly, love the process of stringing all the friggin’ beads. Leave it to Artyarns to come up with a solution. Come check out the patterns which use these yarns—we are in love with the one below:

And not to give short shrift to our pals at CASCADE, we welcomed in their HAND DYED LANA D’ORO and 220. This is a great entry into the hand-dyed market, as CASCADE is known for high quality at a reasonable price!

OUR WEEKLY REPORT!
We stopped by the shop to take care of some biz and was greeted by 8 GINORMOUS BOXES. OK, some of them had our shopping bags in them, but still……
So here is the report. We have received fabulous new colors of our favorite DK WEIGHT COTTON from PATRICIA ROBERTS. We can’t say enough about this yarn. Her colors are clear and the spin on the cotton meets with even KARINA’S tough standards. We plan on keeping this year round for those customers who don’t want to knit in wool.
The yarn is checked in and shelved.
Also in, adorable CROCHET ACCESSORY BAGS from LANTERN MOON. Even if you don’t crochet, pick one of these up to keep your make-up brushes neat! Don’t laugh, one customer already did.
Great new book: KNTTING SOCKS by ANN BUDD. Ann is a master at pattern writing and instruction. We glanced through and believe it is the first book we’ve seen that would allow anyone to learn socks on their own!
Still to go (to be done tomorrow): ARTYARNS fall order, and some back ordered goodies from CASCADE. We will continue our report tomorrow.
And don’t forget about our SUNDAY IN THE SALON which resumes this week. Come learn how to make FELTED CLOGS!!! We will be giving instruction over the next TWO Sundays, and this program is always one of our most popular. As always, the program is free, but we ask that you sign up. And much of the yarn for these clogs needs to be wound, so come in ahead of time!

AND THIS IS WHY KARINA IS GOING TO DESIGN SCHOOL....
Karina’s creativity was on display, literally, this week. She dressed KNITASHA PURL WOOLWINDER, our lovely mannequin, in a stunning outfit for fall. The GATSBY SWEATER (made from ROWAN SILK/WOOL) is complemented by a skirt from the TRANSITIONS book. Why so creative? Because the skirt is actually a capelet! We think the look works! And we have the patterns and yarns if you are looking for a great autumn look:

And don’t forget—we are CLOSED TOMORROW, SUNDAY, for the second part of the NONI BAG WORKSHOP!. You workshop participants, the program runs from 11-5.

NEW NORO YARN
Receiving NORO Yarns is always cause for celebration. Receiving NEW Noro Yarns is an EVENT!!!! Check out their NIJI. We are predicting this to blow out of the store. Why? Because it combines the infamous Noro colorways with texture and hand. The loft in this yarn is amazing, so the result is a quick worsted knit that feels far lighter in weight. Perfect for the warmer winters we have been having, and perfect to wear when you are…ahem…slightly warm all the time, as we are! We have received a few colors; more are on their way. And also from Noro, the most popular “manly” colorway 47 in SILK GARDEN. Rich browns, greys, olives. We sell this out every year, so if you missed out in the past, come and get it!
And our photos below serve as a reminder that we have a blast on Thursday Nights at the shop. All levels of knitters and crocheters are welcome for snacks and conversation. As you can see, we have all ages and levels represented. Just plain fun. Bring your WoolWinders project, turn off your cell phones, and have a glass of wine with us every Thursday from 6-8!

BLUE SKY ORGANIC COTTON
If you are hesitant about knitting with cotton yet are seeking something soft and yummy, consider the BLUE SKY ORGANIC COTTON. Marked by a tight spin that prevents splitting, and an ultra-luxurious hand, this yarn creates lovely blankets and garments. The yarn is organic and when dyed (some is not) only organic vegetable dye is used. We love this yarn, and judging by the frequency of reorders, so do our customers!!! Check out the pattern support too!

NEW STUFF ARRIVES!
We confess to loving our summer work schedule; we get a bit more time off thanks to our fantastic staff, and we always look forward to Thursdays, when we get to see what arrived at the shop in our absence.
We are now fully stocked with the popular BABY COVER, a marvelous machine washable worsted weight wool. Vibrant colors, easy care, great price—who could ask for anything more in a kid’s yarn??? We also received a lovely new “gender-neutral” color of BABY CASHMERINO. This soft Seafoam should provide some relief from the constant knitting of yellow or ivory!
And we received our fall order from DALE OF NORWAY, so our cubbies are filled with BABY ULL, HEILO and the new BABY BOOK 162. Dale patterns are unique in that they feature FAIR ISLE knitting in gorgeous bright Scandanavian colors. If you are looking for a challenge, check these out, and remember that PAIGE will be leading a FAIR ISLE SAFARI this fall—a perfect time to learn this lovely technique of stranded knitting. Dale photography is awesome, so we remind you that “You are knitting the pattern, NOT THE BABY!!!!”
Also in, additional LANTERN MOON CIRCS in sizes 6 and 7. How fabulous are these needles? We liken them to flying First Class. You were perfectly content in Coach until your first upgrade, and then anything less just wouldn’t do!

THERE ARE FELTED BAGS, AND THEN....
There are NONI BAGS. These incomparable works of art are designed by NORA BELLOWS, and we were honored to have her at the shop today. We can’t wait for her return engagement next week. She is an immensely talented teacher who helped 12 lucky students create beautiful bags:

And she was kind enough to send models ahead of time. If we had a dollar for every customer who walked in this week wanting to buy one of these bags, we wouldn’t have to write a check to Nora. We could just pay her with that money. Aren’t they amazing?

So if you weren’t able to attend the workshop, just come into the shop. We will help you pick out a pattern and yarn, and will help you along the way. Although our instructions probably won’t compare to Nora’s.

OUR YOUNGEST KNITTER
Hannah first came to the shop the day we opened five years ago in her mother’s arms. How much is she a part of the WoolWinders family?
Well, mom FLO will be working here beginning this fall, and Hannah has been a regular literally since the day we opened. At age 5 3/4 she is knitting!!!! Her stitchwork is beautiful. And what is more important is that she loves the craft:

COLINETTE HAS ARRIVED!
Well, about a third of our fall order, anyway!!! Just as we were unloading the nine boxes of MANOS, our lovely FED EX guy lugged in a huge box from COLINETTE. So check out the CADENZA (superwash wool/DK weight), PARISIENNE (kid mohair/fingering weight) and TAO (pure silk/DK). If you find some that has red/white/and or blue in it you get 15% off by close of business TOMORROW!!!!!

MILES OF MANOS/COOL NEW PATTERNS
Here we are on the 4th of July when the store is, in fact, closed. But we couldn’t resist checking out the NINE BOXES of MANOS that we received over the past two days, as well as some fabulous new patterns from BLACK PURL DESIGNS. And oh yeah, we also got the WHITE and PINK FIXATION for the LACE ANKLETS.
MANOS has been our top selling yarn, hands down, since the day we opened. And it is easy to see why. Pure wool that is soft enough for blankets and tops worn to the skin, great for felting, glorious colors, and fabulous pattern support. All that, and a fair trade company as well that helps the women of Uruguay. Could you ask for more? There are some new colors. Check them out. But not before Saturday, when our new employee, ALISON, will be helping out as stock-girl! Alison likes nothing more than tagging yarn, arranging bins, and clearing out storerooms. Won’t we be needing her on Saturday?????
As for BLACK PURL patterns, we fell in love with this company at TNNA. We think you will too. Classic sweaters for men, women, and children that know how to make use of various yarns. These patterns are suitable for all level of knitters!
